Scriptures for Comfort


As far as I am concerned, God turned into good what was meant for evil.

The Lord answered Moses, “Is the Lord’s arm too short? You will now see whether or not what I say will come true for you.” -Numbers 11:23 (NIV)

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. And these words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up. -Deuteronomy 6:5-7

And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain.” So God granted him what he requested. -1 Chronicles 4:9-10

Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Don’t be afraid or discouraged by the size of the task, for the Lord God, my God is with you. He will not forsake you. He will see to it that everything is finished correctly. -1 Chronicles 28:19-20

Give my son the wholehearted devotion to keep your commands, requirements, and decrees. -1 Chronicles 29:19a

The eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him. -2 Chronicles 16:9

For if you return to the Lord, your relatives and your children will be treated mercifully by their captors, and they will be able to return to this land. For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful. If you return to him, he will not continue to turn his face from you. -2 Chronicles 30:9 (NLT)

My advice to you is this: Go to God and present your case to him. For he does great works too marvelous to understand. He performs miracles without number. -Job 5:8-9 (NLT)

God’s intimate friendship blesses my house. -Job 29:4 (paraphrased)

When Job prayed for his friends, the Lord restored his fortunes. In fact, the Lord gave him twice as much as before! -Job 42:10

So the Lord blessed Job in the second half of his life even more than in the beginning. -Job 42:12

I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. -Psalm 17:6 (NLT)

Don’t be afraid, for you are deeply loved by God. Be at peace; take heart and be strong! -Daniel 10:19

Oh, that we might know the Lord! Let us press on to know him! Then he will respond to us as surely as the arrival of dawn or the coming of rains in early spring. -Hosea 6:3 (NLT)

Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of my love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you. -Hosea 10:12

So now, come back to your God! Act on the principles of love and justice, and always live in confident dependence on your God. -Hosea 12:6

The Lord says, “I will give you back what you lost to the stripping locusts, the cutting locusts, the swarming locusts, and the hopping locusts.” -Joel 2:25 (NLT)

But these things I plan won’t happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. It if seems slow, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed. -Habakkuk 2:3 (NLT)

It is not by force nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord Almighty -Zechariah 4:6

Do not despise small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin. -Zechariah 4:10 (NLT)

I will bring that group through the fire and make them pure, just as gold and silver are refined and purified by fire. They will call on my name, and I will answer them. I will say, “These are my people,” and they will say, “The Lord is our God.” -Zech 13:9

Then those who feared the Lord spoke with each other, and the Lord listened to what they said. In his presence, a scroll of remembrance was written to record the names of those who feared him and loved to think about him. -Malachi 3:16-17

But for you who fear my name, the Sun of Righteousness will rise with healing in his wings. And you will go free, leaping with joy like calves let out to pasture. -Malachi 4:2

Therefore do not worry about tomorrow. God will take care of your tomorrow, too. Live one day at a time. -Matthew 6:34

Stop judging others, and you will not be judged. Stop criticizing others, or it will all come back on you. If you forgive others, you will be forgiven. -Luke 6:37

God in heaven appoints each person’s work. -John 3:27 (NLT)

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that you may have life, and that you may have it more abundantly. -John 10:10

I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. No wonder my heart is filled with joy, and my mouth shouts his praise. My body rests in hope. -Acts 2:25-26

You have shown me the way of life, and you will give me wonderful joy in your presence. -Acts 2:28

For since we were restored to friendship with God by the death of his Son while we were still his enemies, we will certainly be delivered from eternal punishment by his life. For if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. -Romans 10:9

Live in harmony with each other. Don’t try to act important, but enjoy the company of ordinary people. And don’t think you know it all. -Romans 12:16

As the Scriptures say, “The person who wishes to boast should boast only of what the Lord has done.” -1 Corinthians 1:31

We can be mirrors that brightly reflect the glory of the Lord. And as the Spirit of the Lord works within us, we become more and more like him and reflect his glory even more. -2 Corinthians 3:18

But we will not boast of authority we do not have. Our goal is to stay within the boundaries of God’s plan for us, and this plan includes our working there with you. -2 Corinthians 10:13 (NLT)

And now that you belong to Christ, you are the true children of Abraham. You are his heirs, and now all the promises God gave to him belong to you. -Galatians 3:29

But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Here there is no conflict with the law. -Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

Be sure to do what you should, for then you will enjoy the personal satisfaction of having done your work well, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else. -Galatians 6:4 (NLT)

I pray that you hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the wonderful future he has promised to those he called. I want you to realize what a rich and glorious inheritance he has given to his people. -Ephesians 1:18

I pray that you will begin to understand the incredible greatness of his power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead and seated him in the place of honor at God’s right hand in the heavenly realms. -Eph 1:19,20

I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you might inner strength through his Holy Spirit. And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him. May your roots go down deep into the soil of God’s marvelous love. -Eph 3:16-17

And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is. May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it. Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God. -Eph 3:18-19

Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of malicious behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you. -Ephesians 4:31,32 (NLT)

And I am sure that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on that day when Christ Jesus comes back again. -Philippians 1:6

For God is working in you, giving you the desire to obey him and the power to do what pleases him. -Philippians 2:13 (NLT)

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let you requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. -Phillipians 4:6

We ask God to give you a complete understanding of what he wants to do in your lives, and we ask him to make you wise with spiritual wisdom. Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and you will continually do good, kind things for others. All the while, you will learn to know God better and better. -Colossians 1:9-10

We also pray that you will be strengthened with his glorious power so that you will have all the patience and endurance you need. May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father, who has enabled you to share the inheritance that belongs to God’s holy people, who live in the light. Col 1:11

You must make allowance for each other’s faults and forgive the person who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. -Colossians 3:13

Avoid godless, foolish discussions that lead to more and more ungodliness. This kind of talk spreads like cancer. -2 Tim 2:16 (NLT)

The Lord’s servants must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone. -2 Timothy 2:24

All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It straightens us out and teaches us to do what is right. It is God’s way of preparing us in every way, fully equipped for every good thing God wants us to do. -2 Tim 3:16-17

Think of ways to encourage one another to outbursts of love and good deeds. -Hebrews 10:24 (NLT)

Do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord, no matter what happens. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised. -Heb 10:35

Moses kept right on going because he kept his eyes on the One who is invisible. -Hebrews 11:27 (NLT)

Give honor to marriage, and remain faithful to one another in marriage. -Heb 12:4

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening—it is painful! But afterward there will be a quiet harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way. -Hebrews 12:11 (NLT)

So take a new grip with your tired hands and stand firm on your shaky legs. Mark out a straight path for your feet. Then those who follow you, though they are weak and lame, will not stumble and fall but will become strong. -Hebrews 12:12-13 (NLT)

Try to live in peace with everyone, and seek to live a clean and holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord. -Hebrews 12:14 (NLT)

Look after each other so that none of you will miss out on the special favor of God. -Hebrews 12:15

See to it that you obey God, the one who is speaking to you. -Hebrews 12:25 (NLT)

Stay away from the love of money; be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never forsake you.” -Hebrews 13:5 (NLT)

And now, may the God of peace, who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, all that is pleasing to him. -Hebrews 13:20 (NLT)

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. -James 1:2-4

But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness. -James 3:17,18

The prayer of a person living right with God is something powerful to be reckoned with. -James 5:15 (The Message)

Be careful how you live among your unbelieving neighbors. Even if they accuse you of doing wrong, they will see your honorable behavior, and they will believe and give honor to God when he comes to judge the world. -1 Peter 2:12

Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about what happens to you. -1 Peter 5:7

So now we can tell who are children of God and who are children of the devil. Anyone who does not obey God’s commands and does not love other Christians does not belong to God. 1 John 3:10 (NLT)

If someone says, “I love God,” but hates another Christian, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we have not seen? -1 John 4:20 (NLT)

If you see any Christian sinning in a way that does not lead to death, you should pray, and God will give that person life. -1 John 5:16 (NLT)

No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love has been brought to full expression through us. -1 John 4:12 (NLT)
